Drive to Taupo 6/9/13
We got up early and had a quick breakfast of cereal bars and coffee then packed up the room. After checking out where the hotel was confused as to which room we were actually in we were in 509 but were supposed to be in 409 and their records said we were in 503 so they were very confused. They eventually sorted themselves out and then arranged for us to get a tazi to the airport where we were picking up the hire car.
Auckland Day 2 5/9/13
We got woken up by housekeeping hammering on the door at about 9:30 when they had gone away I made some coffee and started to feel a little more awake. Byrnie took the opportunity of aligned timezones to call Jen in the UK and I did some fiddling around updating this thing and so on.
Today the plan was to continue to acclimatize maybe do some touristy things and locate a local sim card so phones will work and get data.
Transit to Auckland 2/9/13 - 4/9/13
We headed to the airport around lunchtime taking the light rail from downtown Seattle. First we had to get to an airport that would fly to Auckland so our first flight was to SFO. We checked in and went through security and decided to have some lunch. The place we ate in was called the Taphouse a sort of bar or microbrew place. I had prime rib sandwich with sweet potato fries which was very tasty. After that we headed down to the gate to wait for our flight which started boarding fairly quickly. This was a virgin america flight who for a buget domestic airline offer quite good inflight entertainment with movies and tv better than I’ve gotten on some international flights. I slept most of the 2 hour hop to SFO it’s a fairly short flight.
